Ideas for Candidates Seeking Municipal Office in Ottawa, Ontario, Canada

Greetings Candidates for Mayor/Councillor in Ottawa, Ontario, Canada:

As of this present date (October 2, 2014) I have not heard any candidate for Ottawa Mayor or Councillor promote the concept of usuryfree community currency as part of their platform.

Please correct me if I have missed someone’s platform that advocates the Municipality of Ottawa take a leadership role in advocating a usuryfree community currency as a partial solution to the ever-present shortage of usury-based, debt money.

I have been a student of the usuryfree community currency movement since the early 1980’s when Michael Linton created the initial LETS (Local Employment Trading System) software to facilitate trades/exchanges of products and/or services in the Comox Valley, Vancouver Island, BC.

As evidenced from the various articles listed below, I have outlined that the various problems associated with the ever-present scarcity or lack in our orthodox, economic system of debt money, is directly and/or indirectly caused by the design flaw of interest (usury).

And since the early 1990’s, I have been advocating that municipal politicians take a leadership role is offering a simple solution – probably best explained in the article titled: “TheInnovative Proposal.”

As a candidate for Mayor or Councillor in the City of Ottawa, you are invited to familiarize yourself with (a) the problem and (b) the solution.

The usuryfree community currency movement continues to grow and expand all around the world and hopefully, some municipality somewhere in Ontario (or elsewhere) will grasp to power and potential of introducing a beta project whereby a small portion of property taxes can be paid with a usuryfree community currency.

The first municipality in Canada that accepts a leadership role and invites property owners to pay a small portion of annual property taxes with a usuryfree community currency will become the “poster city” for the usuryfree community currency movement. Then other municipalities will beat a path to the door of that City Hall and ask: “What Are You Doing and How Are You Doing it.?” Will the City of Ottawa be that “poster city?”

The concept has been tried and proven to be successful in Bristol, England; Brixton, England; Nantes, France; Langenegg, Austria – and perhaps in others places that I have net yet heard of.

The articles below have been published at The UsuryFree Eye Opener  – where 5.5 million readers from all over the world have visited and been reading the 878 articles that have been posted since the blog was launched in May 2006.

You are invited to browse the various articles and consider adding the concept of a permitting a usuryfree community currency to be a priority during this next four year term – whether you are elected or not…

Enjoy this day!
