The Anti-Debt Agenda
Letter From Bob Hertz
January 13, 2011
Please feel free to publicize any part of The Anti-Debt Agenda. Also, please mention it in your blog or other writing.
I have very much admired your efforts.
The goal of this article is to inspire Debt Jubilees, including:
All existing student loans should be forgiven after 10 years of repayments.
All exisitng medical debt should be forgiven - i.e. paid off by the feds.
We would forgive unconscionable credit card interest.
We would write down the principal of predatory mortgages.
We also need permanent reforms, so as not to re-create the debt all over again.
Colleges, vocational schools and hospitals should be free - i.e. paid for with taxes. That will reduce the need for loans in the first place.
We should establish public banks. Individuals with poor credit could get small emergency loans from the government. Credit card borrowers who are now paying 30% interest could transfer to 2% loans from public organizations.
Let the predatory lenders go broke.
Mortgage lenders must be forced to accept short sales.
Bankruptcy must be easier - people deserve a second chance.
America cannot go on with its ‘Blanche DuBois Economy” - where we depend on lending by strangers.
The Anti-Debt Agenda is a good place to start.
